Korean IT service provider LG CNS has signed a memorandum of understanding with telecos KT and LG U+ to launch an access control system that uses NFC-enabled phones in place of traditional work ID badges.
The new service, targeted toward public institutions and corporations, enables employers to issue access credentials over the air to the SIM-based secure element on an employee’s NFC phone. The employee can then access and use the credentials via a downloadable applet.
LG CNS staff and employees are scheduled to pilot the new service this October, followed by a commercial roll out delivered through the NFC infrastructure established by KT and LG U+. LG CNS is also planning to add new features to the service over time, including a business traffic card, employee welfare point payment, and salary-linked small-sum payment services.
