Laundry Gets High-Tech With Tough Tag
TAGSYS’ new ARIO™ 370-DL line of item-level, RFID-infused tags for the textile laundry market, is available, the company announced this morning.
The new tag reportedly withstands an average of 400-500 cycles and can be used for more than a single garment throughout the tag’s operating lifespan. The typical lifespan for a garment is less than 120 cycles or two to three years, according to TAGSYS.
TAGSYS Shatters Performance Levels for Textile Rental RFID Tags
New ARIO 370-DL Tag Reads Faster and Lasts Twice as Long as Closest Competitor
Cambridge, Mass. (PRWEB) November 13, 2006 – TAGSYS, the global leader in item-level RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) infrastructure, today announced the availability of the company’s newest tag for the textile laundry market. The TAGSYS ARIO™ 370-DL is designed to exceed the demanding performance, durability and size requirements of the market and meets ISO15693 standards. TAGSYS currently has 200 textile rental customers in 20 countries.
The new tag shatters the industry’s benchmark by guaranteeing 200 wash cycles for garment processes using a press extractor at 25 bars and has the ability to withstand high pressures (35-40 bars) found in flat linen cleaning processes. The ARIO™ 370-DL can withstand an average of 400-500 cycles and can be used for more than a single garment throughout the tag’s operating lifespan, as the typical lifespan for a garment is less than 120 cycles or two to three years.
The textile rental industry faces the challenge of managing large quantities of items. RFID has become the defacto platform for increasing efficiencies by eliminating significant manual labor through the use of automatic dispensers, resulting in an average of 10% increase in overall productivity.
However, the challenge for RFID tag manufacturers has been to produce small and unobtrusive tags that are mechanically robust enough to withstand the rigors of the textile rental process. Items are subjected to extreme temperature (-40F to 428F) and pressure ranges (over 40 bars) during laundering and the durability and reliability of the tag is a strong investment consideration by customers. Additionally, guaranteeing data accuracy and integrity when reading items in bulk at full product speed, for example, as a bag of garments enters and exits a processing plant, is crucial. With the implementation of RFID, customer satisfaction increases by removing distribution errors due to inaccurate sorting.
“The value of RFID in the textile rental industry is well established today and the task for TAGSYS is to push the boundaries through innovation,” said Elie Simon, CEO of TAGSYS. “With the ARIO 370-DL, we’ve lowered costs for our customers while increasing data accuracy. In essence, we’ve doubled the return on investment in RFID assets for laundries worldwide.”
Measuring just 15.5mm in diameter at a thickness of 2.8mm, the smallest currently available and the only tag on the market that is white in color, the ARIO 370-DL is designed to be unobtrusive and can be hidden virtually anywhere on a garment or flat linen without interfering with the original design of the item. When tested with TAGSYS’ tunnel reader, the combination yielded 100% reads on 250 bags of 50 items per hour at a conveyor belt speed of 12cm/s. The TAGSYS tag and tunnel reader system provides customers with the assurance of guaranteed data accuracy and high performance levels available from the company’s unique end-to-end infrastructure solution.
