Labcal, operating under a contract awarded by CGI, has deployed a two-factor authentication version of its Single Sign-On for a public corporation that allows it to reduce password management-related costs while increasing network security.
Labcal installs a complete solution on more than 3000 workstations in more than 400 branches and offices of an important public corporation
QUEBEC CITY, QC,- Labcal, a company specializing in fingerprint-based biometrics, smart card and Public Key Cryptography identification and authentication solutions, announces that the deployment of its SmartProfile solution, a two-factor authentication version of its Single Sign-On (SSO) in a public corporation has been a success. This contract was awarded by the CGI Group inc (Toronto Stock Exchange GIB.A; New York Stock Exchange: GIB).
The complete solution provided by Labcal for that project allows the public corporation to reduce password management related costs while enhancing the security of the network, and increasing user-friendliness while logging on to the different applications. The activation of the solution on all workstations has been completed without interrupting the services and the number of calls to the helpdesk did not increase during the installation process.
The public corporation hires more than 6000 employees and each of them now possesses a smartcard than has to be inserted in one of the smart cart readers connected to the thousands of workstations of the organization, located in a few hundreds of branches and offices. To prove their identity, the employees have to place their card in the reader and enter their Personal Identification Number (PIN) to get access to all the applications that they are allowed to. Labcal’s Single Sign-On solution allows the storage and management of all the passwords required to access the different applications used by the employees. The users of the solution do not have to remember and type in all the passwords, but only the PIN required to unlock and use their smart card. The CGI Group was the project manager for the deployment.
Labcal acknowledges CGI’s expertise in the North American IT market and this partnership contributed to the success of this important project » said Pierre Root, Labcal’s President and CEO.
