Jakarta’s Education Agency will be adding student allowances to smart cards by April now that the agency has received its budget allocation list from the governor, reports The Jakarta Post.
The Jakarta Smart Card (KJP) program will be a distribution method for the Rp 240,000 monthly allowance given to underprivileged students to cover costs of school transportation, books and shoes.
Current estimates say that 332,465 students between the ages of 7 and 18 are eligible for the cards. The agency intends to distribute the cards to senior high schoolers before the National Exam in April and then to the rest of the qualified students by the end of the year.
The program’s budget is Rp 804 billion.
