The steel industry struggles with work flow tracking as well as job site locating and sequencing. Current systems are handled and provide little or no real time location or production data. Often times, this causes expensive delays locating missing fabrications and costly rebuilds or double builds.
To help solve some of these problems, International Coding Technologies announced the release of a rugged RFID identification system for steel fabricators.
The single tag, appropriately named Steel-Code, combines a readable bar code and RFID all on one label. The label is sealed in a durable plastic housing that is permanently attached to the steel structure, allowing it to track the structure from inception to the job site, all while withstanding the harsh conditions one would expect in a typical construction environment.
TrackCon, a PC-based system, uses the data from the Steel-Code tag to provide complete product identification and tracking through the entire process in real time, from drawings, to customer, to job site. Not only does this enhance the fabricators’ bottom line but it allows the steel fabricator to provide value to their customers as well.
