Israeli biometrics bill reaches compromise

In order to continue moving a bill to replace all national IDs with biometric ones through the legislative process a compromise between the Israeli politicians pushing the bill and the bill’s opposition has been tentatively reached, according to a Globes Online article.
The compromise involves an increase in security of the database by splitting the access through two ministries; the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Justice.
In addition to the compromise leading to a one needing to have two separate sets of encoded information and access to each ministry to access a citizens biometric profile, strict punishments for unauthorized use or misuse of the information on the databases ranging from 5 to 7 years of imprisonment.
