What will the next-generation physical access control look like? Many industry insiders say it may be PKI at door. Avisian Publishing surveyed the industry at different event throughout the year asking them about the technology.
The revised FIPS 201 specification for U.S. government employees may include PKI at the door and many say using this type of cryptography may be the only way to truly secure physical access.
But PKI at the door is not without its challenges. Updating infrastructure, the time it will take to conduct a transaction and cost are all concerns with taking the technology that’s been used in a logical access environment and making it work in the physical access world.
