Indigo Identityware, a developer of identity and access management solutions, has announced a new solution that brings biometric authentication and proximity card authentication to electronic signatures for prescriptions filled out by physicians.
In addition to the new technology for authentication in Indigo’s solution, called eSign, there is the option of utilizing a PIN as a second factor of authentication.
eSign utilizes fingerprint recognition for the biometric option and enables any health care organization looking to include electronic medicine prescribing into their operation to be compliant with Drug Enforcement Administration’s Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH) requirements.
Indigo is hopeful the incentives involved in the HITECH Act, which requires doctors to write 40% of their prescriptions electronically to qualify for rewards, will help draw more institutions toward their new solution.
