India’s YES Bank has looked to RFID technology to help foster a friendly and more efficient atmosphere for customers at its branches. As part of its “Branch Bank of the Future” initiative, the bank has deployed an RFID-enabled system at its South Extension Branch in New Dehli which identifies customers to tellers as they enter the branch, offering a photo and a basic profile to speed service.
The system is designed to detect the RFID tag embedded in a customer’s debit card as they enter the bank. The system relays basic information about the cardholder to the tellers, or “relationship managers” as the bank has retitled them. This profile, including a photo, will in theory eliminate the need for the customer to give the teller introductory information; instead, they will be greeted by name and the essential business transaction will be addressed quickly.
The RFID solution is designed by Skandsoft Technologies, a Mumbai-based software solutions provider. Skandsoft serves as a consultant for all RFID initiatives at YES Bank, and is the provider of real-time Customer Relation Management (CRM) solutions for the bank.
