Imation Defender achieves FIPS 140 certification

Imation, a developer of computer technology and accessories, has released a new flash drive with a built-in fingerprint reader, according to a Computerworld article.
While the new drive, called the Defender F2000 Biometric Flash drive, is not nearly the first biometrically secured flash drive available to consumers, but it is the first to achieve Level 3 FIPS 140-2 validation.
The drive also allows for a user to require a password in lieu of or in addition to the biometric security to unlock the device. Defender’s other capabilities Imation touts include extreme resistance to cold heat and impact and the ability to program in and manage multiple users for a drive.
