The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) announced the publication the new 802.15.4f-2012 standard for active RFID and RTLS.
This new standard will enable interoperability between systems and give end users a wider selection of vendors, whereas in the past the choice has been limited to a single source that supplies a proprietary technology platform.
GaurdRFID assisted in the three-year process to develop the new narrowband communication protocol for the 433 MHz frequency band. Utilization of this frequency band allows operation of active RFID devices globally and permits longer communication range and lower path loss when compared to higher frequencies.
The new IEEE publication is anticipated to encourage adoption as it gives the consumer of the technology security of supply and potentially a wide selection of manufacturers to choose from.
