HID Global announced the introduction of the OMNIKEY 5321 CR USB Reader, a waterproof contactless PC-linked smart card reader that enables the use of logical access in hygienic environments.
The reader is designed to be an extension of HID’s logical access reader line, enabling end-users to experience the convenience, speed and security of contactless technology, while utilizing the same smart card they use for physical access for logical access to PCs and IT networks within environments where hygiene standards need to be maintained.
Ideal for contactless technology applications within manufacturing sites, hospitals, clean rooms or anywhere a sleek and modern reader is desired, HID’s OMNIKEY brand 5321 CR reader meets data security requirements demanded in these areas, such as Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations in the United States for health care facilities, hospitals and their vendors.
The OMNIKEY 5321 CR USB Reader also features:
- A sealed housing for clean rooms or any area with modern aesthetic needs
- Support for HID iCLASS and MIFARE, as well as three ISO standards for contactless cards, including ISO 14443 A/B, ISO 15693 and Microsoft WHQL
- Standard application interfaces of PC/SC, Synchronous-API (on top of PC/SC)
The reader reads/writes to 13.56MHz contactless smart cards in all three high frequency standards and economically supports end-user environments where a variety of cards and tags are in use, including HID iCLASS, NXP MIFARE, DESFire, SMART-MX, ICODE, Texas Instruments TagIT and Infineon my-d, to name a few. The reader also supports contactless smart cards up to 848 Kbps, providing fast data transmission within a durable housing design that is fully optimized for advanced contactless applications.
Additionally, the reader supports HID on the Desktop as part of a three component solution, including an HID technology card, reader and naviGO software, enabling logical access.
