Cell phones and RFID: Two great tastes, together
Near Field Communication (NFC) is the use of RFID technology in mobile devices. Nokia’s Field Force Initiative is one of the first implementations. Also championed by industry giants Philips and Sony, the technology looks to address contactless payments, personal identification, and proximity based control of electronic devices.
NFC will be a “touch” technology– intended to allow one device to signal another to its presence. Protocols like Bluetooth, Infrared and WiFi will continue to be used for wireless data transfer.
