Gemalto announced the deployment of its next gen, multi-application smart card technology for Taiwan’s EasyCard transit payment and ticketing system. The new EasyCard will also enable micropayments in other venues outside transit. The new Gemalto Celego card will be used by over 30 million metro riders in the Greater Taipei Area. It is also accepted on intercity buses and river boats as well as in parking lots and libraries in Taipei City.
Gemalto Celego card technology supports both contact and contactless interfaces. It allows users to securely check their personal transaction records on the Internet and enables e-payment for government services and Internet shopping.
The Celego card has obtained the Common Criteria EAL4+ top level bank security standard certification. This enables EasyCard to meet the Taiwan Financial Supervisory Commission stringent requirements.
The solution allows for expansion into NFC, future-proofing EasyCard’s offer when the national market moves towards mobile contactless payments.
