Gemalto comes out on top in ePassport speed test
Gemalto announces that its operating system integrated in the Sealys electronic passports achieved the fastest reading capabilities in the independent Interoperability Tests conducted at the Security Document World Conference in London. Sealys ePassport Embedded Software is the latest generation of Gemalto’s ICAO-compliant operating system. It meets the exacting standards of the Common Criteria EAL5+ augmented certification, which represents the highest level of resistance to security attack available today for electronic travel documents.
Gemalto’s software was assessed in May alongside a range of ePassports from other companies, and the test demonstrated data throughput rates more than twice the industry average.
Speed is key for issuing authorities as it means increased personalization and quality control throughput. Faster reading of electronic and biometric passports at border control points is also critical consideration for authorities seeking to process millions of passengers as quickly and efficiently as possible, without compromising security.

Legic, Hotek partner for hospitality market
Hotek Hospitality Group has partnered with LEGIC to implement the mobile key function in its hotel lock systems.
Today, most hotels expect that their lock manufacturers support a “mobile key” function. Therefore, Hotek and LEGIC team up to provide the three components for mobile hotel keys using Bluetooth Low Energy technology: a multi-standard door lock, the trusted service LEGIC Connect for secure mobile key deployments and hotel apps based on LEGIC’s mobile SDK.
Hotek is going to design a new hotel lock with LEGIC’s multi-standard reader chip. The reader chip works with BLE and RFID and is therefore suitable for short and long reading distances. Furthermore, the secure cloud service LEGIC Connect will be integrated in Hotek’s keycard management software to provide the hotel guests a “straight to the room” option.
Hotek plans to launch several hotel-specific smartphone apps based on LEGIC’s mobile Software Development Kit. The integrated security system ranges from mobile guest registration through “over the air key deployments”. LEGIC acts in the background and enables Hotek to expand their products and services with a secure, mobile room key function.
