Gemalto joins SAFE-BioPharma Association

Gemalto announced that it has become a vendor partner of SAFE-BioPharma Association. Gemalto is joining with biopharmaceutical and health care industry to help the industry achieve its goal of a fully electronic business environment by 2012.
Gemalto is the first smart card provider to join SAFE-BioPharma. The company has been an industry partner since 2004, when it began working with Pfizer to implement smart card employee badges that converge physical and logical access control onto a single credential.
The SAFE-BioPharma Association, based in Fort Lee, N.J., is a non-profit association that created and manages the SAFE-BioPharma digital identity and signature standard for the pharmaceutical and health care industries. The standard provides users with a secure, enforceable, and regulatory compliant way to verify identities of parties involved in electronic transactions and to apply their digital signatures to electronic documents.
