Guinea modernized voter registration with Gemalto
Gemalto has managed a modernization of Guinea’s voter register on behalf of CENI, the National Independent Electoral Commission in the country.
This included the use of 2,500 units of the Coesys Mobile Enrollment station, a portable biometric citizen registration kit deployed throughout Guinea. The aim was to ensure that millions of eligible voters were enrolled accurately and reliably ahead of elections that took place in October.
Gemalto provided CENI with the benefits of a single source solution that upgrades Guinea’s existing voter registration system and processes. A total of 5,000 operators were hired, trained and conducted the enrollment of voters across the country and abroad, using a solution consisting of biometric citizen registration kits. The enrollment stations also featured devices to register citizens even in areas of the country with limited infrastructure.
Gemalto also delivered a back-end solution comprising an Automatic Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) to ensure unique and verifiable registration of citizens. The biometric and personal data acquired were securely consolidated to build a national voter register without any duplication. The solution also featured software modules to allow the printing of voters’ lists and voters’ cards by CENI.
Solomon Islands Taps IRIS for ePassports
IRIS Corporation has inked a $22 million contract to supply the next-generation ICAO compliant ePassports to the Government of Solomon Islands.
In this new ePassport program, the Solomon Islanders will see the conversion of the manual passport book into an ePassport that will use fingerprint biometric technology.
Apart from supplying IRIS’ polycarbonate data page that incorporates advanced visual security features, IRIS will also provide its IdenCraft solution that manages enrollment, personalization, and issuance of the new ePassport. Personalization of the datapage is done by IRIS’ laser marker.
German hotelier deploys ASSA ABLOY Mobile Access
prizeotel, a German hotel collection, has selected ASSA ABLOY Hospitality to implementing Mobile Access at its three locations in Bremen, Hamburg and Hannover. ASSA ABLOY Hospitality Mobile Access is a technology that enables guests to use their own smart devices as digital room keys. At prizeotel, Mobile Access works in conjunction with VingCard Signature RFID door locks that have also been installed.
By implementing ASSA ABLOY Hospitality Mobile Access, prizeotel’s guests can completely bypass front desk lines when arriving, Mobile Access is accessible as soon as an individual initiates a request via mobile app. This convenience-enhancing feature allows guests of prizeotel to begin enjoying their hotel stay experience immediately, without having to wait for staff assistance.
Mobile Access works with a hotel’s property management system in order to allocate a guestroom and generate a digital key that is encrypted and securely delivered to a guest’s smartphone. The smartphone places the key in a secure key vault within the hotel’s mobile app. When presented to the appropriate lock, the app transmits the encrypted key via a secure communication channel, ensuring that only authorized users receive digital key information and gain access.
