Gemalto and Devon IT announced a partnership to increase patient information security using Gemalto .NET cards for clinicians to log on at any Devon IT thin client workstation in seconds. To access their personal desktop on the healthcare network, clinicians and staffers simply insert their Gemalto .NET card into the thin client reader and enter their PIN. Removing the card automatically ends the session. The solution helps healthcare organizations increase productivity, reduce IT support costs and comply with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).
Gemalto and Devon IT Provide Security and Efficiency for Healthcare Organizations
CITRIX iFORUM 07, Las Vegas, NV, – Gemalto, the world leader in digital security, and Devon IT, the fastest growing provider of thin client terminals, today announced a new joint solution to increase patient information security and clinician efficiency within healthcare facilities. Healthcare providers can now use Gemalto .NET cards to securely log on and begin or resume work at any Devon IT thin client workstation in seconds. The solution helps healthcare organizations increase productivity, reduce IT support costs and comply with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).
“As an expert and leader in thin client computing, Devon IT boasts security, manageability, and efficiency among the top benefits of implementing thin client solutions,” said Joe Makoid, president of Devon IT. “Our healthcare clients have found that thin clients make patient information more readily accessible, allow clinicians to see more patients in less time, and help establish and retain HIPAA compliance. Using Gemalto .NET cards to access the applications and data provides unprecedented levels of security that are needed to protect sensitive patient information. Gemalto shares our vision of giving healthcare providers access to the most efficient and secure technology, and we are proud to provide this joint solution with them.”
A thin client is a limited-resource computer that acts primarily as a display and input device. It accesses software and data running on a central server instead of locally. Since applications and information are Web-enabled, they can be delivered to any device, at any location, over any connection using the Gemalto .NET card for digital security and identity.
“Logging on to healthcare networks using Gemalto’s .NET cards is an ideal digital security solution, as it eliminates the threat of losing patient information because of stolen passwords and data breaches,” said Francois Lasnier, vice president and general manager, security, for Gemalto North America. “No one can log on to a Devon IT workstation without his or her personalized smart card and PIN. IT costs are lowered, too, as there is no longer a need for password resets.”
To access their personal desktop on the healthcare network, clinicians and staffers simply insert their Gemalto .NET card into the thin client reader and enter their PIN. Removing the Gemalto .NET card ends the session immediately, and logging in again from anywhere instantly restores the desktop as they left it, saving considerable time for users. Network administrators can even set up security parameters, allowing employees to access only certain data and/or applications.
For healthcare facilities using Citrix Systems application delivery products, both Gemalto .NET cards and Devon IT thin client terminals have completed Citrix Ready™ verification, and can operate fully in Citrix environments.
The Gemalto and Devon IT joint solution is available through CentriServ, a systems integrator that specializes in server-based computing. For more information, please call 1-888-343-5773.
