Four-State Wiegand Interface Card Supports Multi-Credential Formats
BOCA RATON, FLA. – November 19, 2003 – GE Interlogix Access/Integration Group (NYSE:GE) today announced that its new Wiegand Interface Unit-Four State Card (WIU-4), when combined with any conventional proximity, Mifare® and ISO 15693 readers, sends immediate alarm notification if a short circuit, cut line, or open/close condition occurs between it, request-to-exit (REX) and door data inputs. The WIU-4 provides a wiring union and Wiegand-to-Supervised F/2F transfer point for all Picture Perfect and Secure Perfect access control systems. It provides the communications interface that supports up to 16 Wiegand output readers per microcontroller.
“If someone is tampering with the readers or there is a malfunction, security systems administrators need to know right away,” said Randall Provoost, GE Interlogix product marketing manager for credentials and readers. “To obtain this solution is easy. For those using most non-proprietary Wiegand data formats along with Picture Perfect or Secure Perfect, their installers connect a WIU-4 to their standard Wiegand format readers. The WIU-4 then transfers the Wiegand badge data to a Micro/5-PX or Micro/5PXN controller equipped with up to two 8RP reader processor boards. In smaller systems with up to four readers, the WIU-4 is configured with a Micro/PX-2000 or Micro/PXN-2000 controller.”
When a user presents a credential or their biometric to the reader, the WIU-4 converts the BID information into F/2F protocol and sends it to the microcontroller. The GE Interlogix access control system then grants or denies access to the secured location. If there is a breech, an alarm is immediately sent.
The WIU-4 also bridges common wiring connections for junction box system designs. Door contact, request-to-exit, door strike and alarm shunt outputs are all supported.
The new WIU-4 is available now.
