Lets Users Implement Presently-Installed Conventional and Proprietary BID Formats in New Upgraded Access Control Systems
BOCA RATON, FLA. – August 12, 2003 – GE Interlogix Access and Integration Group (NYSE:GE) today announced that its new Wiegand Interface Unit -Two State Card (WIU-2) supports a wide range of magnetic stripe, Wiegand, proximity, Mifare smart card and biometric readers that employ Wiegand formats. The WIU-2 features a Wiegand data converter, which can accommodate both conventional and proprietary Wiegand reader protocols. It includes a 2 Amp relay for door strike control activities.
“Any organization can now quickly add a wide range of credential readers to any GE Interlogix Secure Perfect or Picture Perfect access control and security management system,” said Randall Provoost, GE Interlogix product marketing manager for credentials and readers. “For those that are upgrading to one of these GE Interlogix systems, they can now employ their present credentials and readers, saving time and money. This is especially important to multi-location enterprises, many of which use a variety of credentials from office to office and country to country.”
The WIU-2 connects between the GE Interlogix microcontroller and access control reader. When a user presents a credential or their biometric to the reader, the WIU-2 converts the BID information into F/2F protocol and sends it to the microcontroller. The GE Interlogix access control system then grants or denies access to the secured location.
The new WIU-2 is available now.
