Florida county bringing biometrics to school busses

The Washington County School District in Florida is adding biometric identity authentication systems to all of its school buses in an effort to better keep tabs on students’ whereabouts, according to a WJHG News article.
The original decision to bring the new systems on board came from reported inconsistencies in attendance recording.
Among the challenges facing the district in implementation of the bus-integrated biometrics systems in placement as the district requires aisles be clear. While they are working to alleviate such concerns, they still expect the system to be up and running in all their buses by the end of the calendar year.
As was the case when the systems were running inside the schools, parents are able to opt their children out of the program having them sign-in manually.
