INSIDE helps the mobile industry integrate the eNFC chip in all consumer electronic devices
Aix-en-Provence, France – August 10th, 2005: INSIDE is proud to announce the launch of a set of educative tools in order to help the mobile industry integrate easily the eNFC(tm) chip in their respective devices.
Most OEMs, handset manufacturers, Telecom operators, SIM suppliers are today seduced by the eNFC(tm) technology as it empowers their mobile handsets. Indeed, an eNFC enabled mobile phone can interact with the millions of readers already installed worldwide exchanging data and performing secure transactions. All major players see the eNFC chip as revolutionizing the mobile world.
As the technology deployment is not limited to any standards of communication, there is no reason why eNFC could not be implemented in all consumer electronic devices. INSIDE wants then to smooth the eNFC(tm) chip integration as it is interoperable with all industry standards (ISO 14443A/B, ISO 1563, FeliCa(tm)), with all infrastructure in place and thus with all applications.
This set of tools consists of a datasheet which has been elaborated to educate users about the various functions, general specifications, and technical features of the eNFC(tm) enabled chip. A hardware reference design provides detailed descriptions on how to integrate the chip into the device and to run the technology accurately. Application notes will shortly be available to help all developers manage software integration. Further literature will be elaborated to explain how to implement each protocol and a kit of interoperability will test the eNFC’s compatibility with all these protocols, once implemented.
Bruno Charrat, INSIDE’s Chief Technology Officer comments: “If we consider that billions of mobiles will soon be on the market, this eNFC chip is the key to worldwide interoperability. INSIDE is committed to delivering a customized support to help all mobile players through the integration process of the eNFC(tm) chip in their devices.”

About eNFC(tm):
The eNFC(tm) technology allows devices to behave as a reader and as a card, thus, to receive commands from any standard proximity contactless reader and then to send back responses in the same manner as a contactless smart card would do. With this feature, any consumer electronic devices can interact with millions of readers already in place everywhere in the world to exchange data or to perform secure transactions, regardless of the access protocol, including ISO 14443 A & B, ISO 15693, as well as FeliCa(tm) protocols.
Indeed, eNFC(tm) includes the compatibility of the recently announced NFC (Near Field Communication) technology, enhanced with ISO14443-B & ISO15693 standards making it compatible with the infrastructure in place.
