Edenred, Commuter Check and WiredCommute have announced the launch of a new contactless Commuter Check Prepaid MasterCard card for tap and go payment on public transit.
Equipped with MasterCard’s PayPass technology, the card is designed to save commuters money by enabling contactless fare payments through their employer sponsored pre-tax benefit program. The new card can also be used on its own as a fare card within transit environments already equipped with contactless payment readers, according to Edenred.
Riders using the new MasterCard PayPass-enabled card can choose from several different fare payment options, including “pre-fund,” “pay-as-you-go,” time-based fares (one day, weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly passes) as well as discounted fares for senior citizens, disabled and student riders.
Currently available to all participants in both the Commuter Check and WiredCommute programs, the new card can be used anywhere MasterCard PayPass is accepted within transit agencies across the US.
