The Delhi Metro is in the process of acquiring new automatic fare collection gates that will enable passengers to recharge their metro cards without paying cash, according to TruthDive.com.
Under the current scheme, metro cards can be purchased or recharged only by paying cash at individual counters, machines or customer care centers located within the Metro stations. Once the new electronic gates are installed, passengers will be able to link their metro card and automatically replenish funds using a personal bank account.
When the metro card balance goes beyond the minimum amount, the gates will add a predefined amount back into the card automatically. The amount is billed to the card holder’s account, and through an electronic clearance system, deducted from the account.
The Metro is still working on the final touches, with an anticipated launch later this year.
