Days of metal keys are numbered at one California school
Exterior doors at 28 buildings on the campus of San Jose State University in California are receiving electronic locks that eventually will only be accessed by a contactless key card. Purpose of the upgrade is to increase campus security by regulating who can access these buildings after hours.
“It’ll be more safe to be on campus at night, that way, people who aren’t students can’t come in.” said one student.
The doors can all be locked from a central location, but will remain open from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Before or after those hours, only students, faculty or staff with the proper keycard will be able gain access.
