DAP Technologies announced the release of a new series of personal digital assistants (PDAs) that, in addition to many internal technology upgrades, also has an optional biometric module that attaches to the device.
The device, called the DAP M2000, includes, in addition to the fingerprint-based biometric scanner module, touch screen interface, a 520 MHz processor, an optional GPS and runs on the Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system.
The optional biometric module offers more than biometric capabilities. In addition to its fingerprint scanning and authenticating capabilities, the module includes a three track magnetic stripe reader capable of reading both driver’s licenses and credit cards and a machine readable zone for reading passports or travel documents.
DAP officials are touting the PDA plus biometric module solution as a fit for field service, utility, transportation, logistics, parking enforcement and warehouse environments.
