T-Mobile employees in the Czech Republic have begun testing handsets with NFC-enabled SIM cards, according to fiercewireless.com.
A group of selected employees are using the handsets (upgraded Samsung S5230 Stars) to access the T-Mobile building and their offices, print documents on networked printers and make payments in the company’s cafeteria.
T-Mobile says the goal of the trial is to improve the user interface in handsets, test the remote secured NFC data management on SIM cards, which were provided by Gemalto, and connect the system to the operator’s other IT systems.
Other companies involved with the trial include Xerox, Alimex, which provided the access system, and Eurest, operator of the payment system in the cafeteria.
The internal pilot, to be completed later this year, will lay the foundation for T-Mobile’s future external NFC projects, says fiercewireless.com.
