The Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) has announced plans to implement 15,000 new contactless payment terminals before the end of the year, according to individual.com.
The initiative marks a big step up from last year’s installation of 1,900 of new terminals. The bank now operates 160,000 terminals, a small fraction of which are equipped with the new technology.
The National Australia Bank has been quick to adopt the contactless payment too. In 2009, the bank installed 2,500 readers, and is currently working to provide its customers with Visa payWave cards.
