“The HF market in Asia is large and growing due to applications in transportation, item-level inventory, anti-counterfeiting, and contactless payment.”
And that’s why SkyeTek, embedded RFID reader manufacturer, is going global – adding three new distributors to give its presence a boost in the Asia-Pacific region: Sobal, Passtech, and Hangzhou Ziytek .
SkyeTek to Serve Growing RFID Markets in Asia
Sobal, Passtech, and Hangzhou Ziytek will distribute SkyeTek’s full line of HF and UHF reader technology in Japan, Korea, and China.
Westminster, CO, USA, September 12, 2006 – SkyeTek, Inc., the leading provider of embedded RFID reader technology, today announced the addition of three distributors that will provide it with a significant sales, systems integration, and support presence in the Asia-Pacific region. Sobal, Passtech, and Hangzhou Ziytek will provide SkyeTek with sales and service in the region’s fastest adopting markets for RFID, Japan, Korea, and China. These partners each carry SkyeTek’s full line of HF and UHF reader modules and ReaderWare software and have begun product shipments to customers.
“The HF market in Asia is large and growing due to applications in transportation, item-level inventory, anti-counterfeiting, and contactless payment,” stated Rob Balgley, CEO of SkyeTek. “Due to market stimuli such as decreasing tag costs and government initiatives, moreover, the market for UHF is now poised for growth as well. The fact that our architecture is frequency-agnostic across HF and UHF makes it very attractive to systems integrators and distributors because they only need to train and build competence around one RFID reader platform to serve the dominant RFID markets.”
The Advanced Universal Reader Architecture (AURA) is the common architectural foundation of both the M2 (HF) and M9 (UHF) SkyeModules. AURA allows the M2 and M9 to provide an identical software, electrical, and mechanical interface so that applications can switch between HF and UHF without re-design. These modules lead their respective markets in reader price-performance due to AURA’s ReaderWare software layer. ReaderWare provides advanced reader intelligence that not only delivers adaptive behavior, broad tag support, and tag heuristics but also delivers state-of-the-art security, which typically runs on a Pentium-class processor, on an ARM7-class processor. ReaderWare also performs functions traditionally performed in hardware allowing the M2 and M9 to achieve global regulatory compliance in a single SKU as well as uncommon efficiencies in cost, space, and power.
SkyeTek offers its technology to OEM customers or distributors as reader modules, which include a ReaderWare license, or ReaderWare software licenses. Licensing provides customers with access to ReaderDNA reference designs, allowing them to integrate the technology directly into their product design and realize 40 to 70 percent cost savings versus a typical reader module.
About SkyeTek, Inc.:
SkyeTek, Inc. develops reader technology that enables the pervasive adoption of RFID as an embedded feature in existing products. Customers use SkyeTek’s technology to create new applications for their product lines in areas such as anti-counterfeiting, configuration management, consumables authentication, item-level inventory, patient safety, patron management, contactless payment, and mobile data collection. SkyeTek specifically designed AURA to serve as the multi-frequency, universal reader architecture for embedded RFID applications. AURA’s common architecture disaggregates the RFID reader into a ReaderWare software layer, optimized for broad tag support, reader intelligence and easy application integration, and ReaderDNA hardware reference designs, crafted to optimize read range / performance while exploiting Moore’s Law for gains in cost, space, and power efficiency. SkyeTek offers its AURA-based products as either a SkyeModule or ReaderWare license, which comes with access to ReaderDNA. Customers using SkyeTek represent numerous vertical markets and range from mid-market companies to Fortune 500 corporations. Based in Westminster, Colo., SkyeTek sells exclusively through OEMs, systems integrators, and distributors. For more information about SkyeTek, visit www.skyetek.com or call 720-565-0441.
