Cogent chosen for UK National MobileID

Cogent Systems, a developer of biometric and other identity solutions, has announced it has been chosen to provide biometric aspects of the United Kingdom’s National MobileID service. The contract is valued at $25 million and spans three years, but there is an option for two one-year extensions to the contract.
MobileID is a program that intends to outfit the UK Police force with biometric scanners and the ability to collect fingerprint samples to identify individuals without having to bring them into a police station.
Cogent’s specific duties under the new contract consist of providing an Automated Fingerprint Identification System, a nationwide mobile biometric identification system, a framework catalog for individual department to order devices from and various services to support the systems and users. The rough number of mobile devices the program expects to dole out is 10,000.
