The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) has partnered with the America’s Cup to create a unique and commemorative limited-edition Clipper card in honor of the America’s Cup Summer of Racing in San Francisco.
The America’s Cup is the oldest active trophy in international sport and sailings greatest prize. The limited edition, commemorative America’s Cup Clipper card showcases a beautiful rendering of an AC72 wing-sailed catamaran featuring the America’s Cup trophy on the sail, with the Bay Bridge in the background.
Introduced in June 2010, Clipper is that all-in-one transit card that keeps track of any passes, discount tickets, ride books and cash value loaded onto it. Clipper accounted for 621,700 average weekday transactions during July 2013, which amounts to nearly half of all transit rides in the Bay Area. More than 1.3 million active Clipper cards were in circulation as of July 31, 2013.
Like its sister cards, the America’s Cup Clipper card can be used on any of the eight public transit systems: AC Transit, BART, Caltrain, Golden Gate Bus and Ferry, SamTrans, San Francisco Bay Ferry, San Francisco Muni and Valley Transportation Authority — as well as the Dumbarton Express.
The limited edition, commemorative America’s Cup Clipper card is available for purchase at: Bay Crossings, Clipper Customer Service Center, and The 34th America’s Cup Park Store. The card costs $3, and customers can load passes or cash value onto it. The card functions only as an adult Clipper card and does not provide discounts for seniors or youths.
The America’s Cup card joins other commemorative Clipper cards such as the new Bay Bridge East Span and the Golden Gate Bridge 75th Anniversary Clipper card as well as other collectible Clipper cards produced in partnership with the Golden State Warriors and San Jose Sharks.
