Clear2Pay has won the Contactless Monkey Award in the category of “Trailblazing and Innovation” for its EMV contactless ticketing solution in South Africa’s public transport system.
Clear2Pay shares the award, which is given to companies who have “furthered the boundaries of contactless technology” through introducing new technology or pilot programs, with its partners Keith Smith Consulting and Techso Smart Solutions.
Clear2Pay’s South Africa EMV Contactless Payment and Electronic Fare Collection Program is the first EMV-based e-ticketing program on the African continent. The system provides commuters with contactless Automatic Fare Collection based on EMV payment standards, as well as low value retail payments.
The fourth edition of the award, organized annually by Contactless Intelligence, saw a record number of entries, underlining the growing significance of contactless payment applications, says Clear2Pay.
Steve Atkins, CEO of Krowne Communications, the company behind Contactless Intelligence, comments: “We honor those firms that are really making a difference and cross the Rubicon in getting contactless devices into the hands of users and encouraging consumers to use them at both major international and small retailers throughout the world.”
