Citigroup to launch NFC payment in India

The Indian branch of Citigroup has announced plans to launch NFC-enabled mobile payment technology by December of this year, according to livemint.com.
The announcement follows the recent completion of a 26-week NFC payment pilot project in Bangalore featuring 3,000 customers, 250 merchant locations and nearly 50,000 contacltess purchases.
Citi partnered with Nokia Oyj and Vodafone Essar Ltd to implement the pilot, but is currently waiting for multiple players to invest in the required infrastructure for a complete roll out.
According to Vijay Ramchandran, chief marketing officer at Citi South Asia, Citibank is in talks with three-four potential partner banks, three telecom operators, a few technology providers and two phone makers.
