Nok Nok Labs, a founding member of the FIDO Alliance, announced that Alipay will use the company’s NNL S3 Authentication Suite to enable secure online payments via the fingerprint sensor technology in the Samsung Galaxy S5.
Alipay customers, who make purchases and transfers in the Alipay Wallet – the institution’s mobile application — no longer need to enter a password – just apply their fingerprint to the scanner for a secure mobile shopping experience leveraging FIDO standards, says Jamie Cowper, senior director at Nok Nok Labs.
Users simply enroll their fingerprint into the Alipay Wallet and can then make purchases or transfer money using the scanner on the Galaxy S5, Cowper says.
Alipay, the largest third-party online payment solution in China, provides a way for individuals and businesses to make and receive payments online and on mobile phones. Alipay offers payment and escrow services for transactions on Alibaba Group’s marketplaces as well as to third parties in China.
Alipay has deployed the NNLMultifactor Authentication Server, which provides a unified, flexible authentication infrastructure and communicates securely with the client present on the Galaxy S5. The Nok Nok solution was delivered in partnership with Lenovo Group Ltd., another founding member of the FIDO Alliance.
Nok Nok Labs’ client and server software leverages the existing security capabilities on a user’s device such as a built-in fingerprint sensor, camera or Trusted Platform Module in order to provide strong authentication to any application.
