Cape Cod has gone live with its own Charlie Card, a stored value smart card used for automated fare collection system and originally installed by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA).
According to a local news report the Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority will start accepting the new card from passengers to pay for rides on the agency’s fixed bus routes.
The reloadable card can topped up at the local Plymouth & Brockton ticket counter or at the transit authority’s administrative offices. Value also can be added to the card over the phone or online at the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority’s website.
The transit authority is also replacing its 20-ride transit pass with a new 20-day pass that gives passengers unlimited rides for 20 days at the same price as the 20-ride pass, adding that it hopes to change the pass over to cover 30 days by next September.
