Good news for people fed up with untangling wires: Powermat has developed a new universal charger that uses RFID technology to wirelessly charge up to three electronic devices at once, including iPods, cell phones and PDAs,
The device, which is an oval shaped platform outfitted with a USB port, is easy to operate. Simply clip on a Powermat enabled receiver to the device you want to charge and place it on the mat. The mat will emit a beep confirming the presence of the device and begin charging.
RFID tags embedded in the mat sense exactly how much power is needed to fully charge the device. Once the gadget is ready, the charge to the device is automatically shut off to ensure there is no wasted electricity.
So far Powermat is offering two versions of the device; one for the home or office, and another more compact one that folds up for travel.
The mat will be available in stores late October at a price of $99.99.
