BOS Better Online Solutions Ltd. (BOS), an RFID solutions provider based in Israel, has announced the availability of a tracking system for domestic pets, based on injectable RFID tags. The system is now available to local veterinary authorities in Israel, after a successful pilot program overseen by the Local Government Economic Services Ltd. (LGES), an organization which provides municipalities and regional councils with services to create economies of scale.
The system uses injectable RFID tags molded in a glass capsule. The tags are injected under the first layer of a pet’s skin, and can be read by mobile RFID readers also provided to vets by BOS. Data encoded on the tag can be used to retrieve a range of information about the pet in question, including information about the pet’s owner, its residential address, and medical history and vaccines. With this information, municipal vet authorities can manage domestic pet health information by region, helping manage and prevent disease outbreaks, as well as enabling a more efficient system for pet licenses.
The pilot test administered by LGES involved the successful management of the health records of over 5,800 pets. LGES is now prepared to expand the system to a much larger scale.
