Biometrics increasingly common for gyms

Biometric systems are becoming increasingly common as physical access control solution for gyms and recreation centers due to its ability to maintain high security but with added benefits of removing card issuance from the operating budget, according to an Athletic Business article.
While many are using the technology, most of them are still in a testing phase with the equipment not yet requiring members to switch but enabling them to use it.
Many of those operating recreation centers with biometric pilot programs are also seeing the new systems as an opportunity for education and customer outreach as they are quick to give the customer an option to use cards or bar codes,
But many gyms have been opting for the new technology that never requires them to remember an additional item for the gym. Additionally, fears over how the biometric data is stored and used are a regular concern, but rarely is the actual image of something like a fingerprint stored whereas a numerical representation often is kept in place of it.
