BIO-key’s low-profile fingerprint scanner
BIO-key International unveiled a compact fingerprint reader called the SideSwipe. SideSwipe’s design incorporates a high-quality fingerprint scanner into an ergonomic, cable-free design for USB-equipped tablets, laptops and other mobile form factors, enabling on-the-go enrollment and identification on the device or to the cloud.
At a single unit price of $34.99 SideSwipe’s form factor is tiny and unobtrusive. Plugged-in, the dimensions are 0.75”L x 0.6”W x 0.5” H, and the device can remain attached to laptops and tablets if the need requires. SideSwipe will be available to enterprise customers directly from BIO-key and through select distribution partners in North and South America.
U.S. agency taps Intercede for mobile PIV
Intercede announced that a U.S. federal agency has placed an initial order for its MyID v10.1 credential management software to provide its employees with secure identity on mobile devices to meet the new FIPS 201-2 standard.
Launched earlier this month, MyID v10.1 is a derived credential solution that can issue and manage trusted PIV credentials for mobile.
The use of derived credentials enables federal employees to securely access mobile resources that they could previously only get to with their PIV smart card.
Thursby releases iOS8-supported browser, apps
Thursby Software announced the immediate availability of its PKard Pro secure browser app on Apple’s App Store and iOS 8 support.
PKard Pro provides users with an enterprise level two-factor secure browser with enhanced features, such as support for all FIPS 201 certified PIV readers, including the Precise Tactivo readers. Thursby has also worked with two key partners, MobileIron and Entrust, to include additional layers of support for the enterprise user.
PKard Pro works natively with the MobileIron EMM platform to give enterprise users a variety of management options, such as requiring zero data at rest. These features enable agencies to take the security of the browser to another level while still giving users the easy-to-use experience they have come to expect from PKard.
Thursby has also partnered with Entrust to provide a browser that uses derived credentials. Beyond the features already associated with CAC/PIV authentication, the Entrust solution also enables users to provision a credential on the device either from a back-end server or directly off of the PIV card. Users are able to switch between using a card or derived credentials as the situation permits by choosing which credential to use for a given action.
New Trusted UI released by Nok Nok Labs
Nok Nok Labs released an addition to the Trusted User Interface (Trusted UI) capability to the FIDO-Ready NNL S3 Authentication Suite. This new solution, delivered with Trustonic’s ARM TrustZone-based Trusted Execution Environment, provides security across mobile payments, m-commerce and the entire payments ecosystem, by ensuring that all user authentication and transaction verification can be isolated from the Rich OS.
The Trusted UI functionality, which is leveraged in the FIDO specifications to support Transaction Confirmation, enables Nok Nok Labs to deliver end-to-end security. Service providers can use the Nok Nok solution to deliver better security assurances to their customers and to provide them with more secure online transactions.
Trusted UI supports the implementation of a secure pin pad for devices where no biometric verification methods are present, it also prevents Man-in-the-Browser attacks by implementing the FIDO authenticator using this secure pin pad and transaction confirmation display. Trusted UI ensures that only actual users and not malware can enter the PIN. The user sees the transaction and has to approve it, so ‘what you see is what you sign’ – the content of the signed message cannot be changed.
