Using LEGIC contactless smartcard technology to monitor employee access, coupled with human resources management software, three Berlin airports now have a personal identification and time management solution that provides more efficient employee scheduling.
Personal ID, time management improved with smart card and human resources software
Berlin’s three city based airports, Schonefeld, Tegel, and Tempelhof, have installed a personal identification and time management solution using the latest LEGIC contactless smart card technology. Ground services provider GlobeGround, an affiliate of Penauille Polyservices SA, delivers fast and efficient 24-hour ramp, passenger and freight handling services at all three airports, with 1,500 employees serving over 100 airlines.
Working a three-shift system of early, late, and night shifts, managers at the company realised that in order to ensure optimum efficiency and smooth handling of all airline services, they would need to streamline the way in which employees were allocated tasks as and when they reported in for work. However, without an effective access control and time and attendance recording system this was proving difficult to achieve.
The solution was to install a smart card access control system using the latest contactless technology from LEGIC allied to special airport software for personnel planning and scheduling from Inform, human resources management software from Astrum, and time recording terminals from Kaba Benzing.
Configuring the four systems to work together was straightforward and all GlobeGround’s employees were issued with new proximity LEGIC ID cards. The three airports were all switched to the new system simultaneously to ensure maximum efficiency and minimum snagging whilst the new system became operational.
GlobeGround’s Head of Central Operations Coordination and Quality Management, Wolfgang Kaspar, said: “The combination of contactless smart cards and time management software offered us all the planning, control and coordination tools we needed.”
“Employees now book their working times as they arrive on site with their LEGIC contactless IDs. When they have checked in our coordinator receives a message prompting him to integrate the employee into the working shift roster, and the employee is then assigned to a specific area within the airport and receives his instructions for the shift by wireless communication. The result is optimal employee allocation and meticulously planned working schedules ensuring our airline customers get what they pay for – smooth and efficient ground handling services.”
