The Belgian Federal Police Department has announced they have chosen Steria Benelux, a European systems integrator, to provide their Technical and Scientific Police Department’s Legal Identification Division with a fingerprint capture system.
The system will be based on Cogent System’s Automated Palm Print and Fingerprint Identification System (APFIS) with Steria enabling safe transmission of samples collected as well as integrating other services.
The new system is to replace a ten-year-old system used by the agency and is expected to greatly improve its crime-solving capabilities through improved precision in sampling and searching as well as improved response times. Additionally, the upgrade will allow the Belgian police to share the data they collect with Interpol and the countries covered by the Prum Treaty.
