UK banker Barclays and contactless payment provider Barclaycard have announced that to date they have issued over five million contactless cards in the UK.
Barclaycard began distributing contactless cards to customers in the UK in 2007 with the launch of Barclaycard One Pulse, an all-in-one card that features contactless payment, credit and Oyster card capabilities.
Today, with the recent addition of Caffe Nero and Pret A Manger, the total number of outlets now accepting contactless payment through Barclaycard exceeds 20,000, and the 5 million card mark looks like it’s just the beginning. With positive reports from Pret A Manger and Caffe Nero, Barclaycard expects to see more retailers going contactless in the near future.
