Barclaycard, Orange partnership could spur NFC deployment

Barclaycard, a UK leader in contactless cards, has allied itself with wireless operator Orange to push development of NFC-compliant mobile payments devices. Calling NFC “the biggest revolution in payments since plastic cards were introduced over 40 years ago,” the two intend to expand the partnership to include other contactless services, such as ticketing and transport.
MasterCard will provide the payment capabilities and the first Orange phone containing a Barclays MasterCard, is expected to be rolled out in the near future.
