Australia’s Immigration Ministry has implemented the use of biometric recognition tools such as facial scans, fingerprints and DNA to fight fraudulent visa applications, reports The Daily Telegraph.
The ministry taps into the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS) to help identify criminal histories that may not be disclosed in visa applications. The ministry has already found 127 matches with the NAFIS system where this has been the case.

The government has noted many case studies where biometrics prevented a criminal or sex offender from entering the country.
