Aukland Transport has officially launched a new smart card for public transit. Dubbed “HOP,” the new cards will be initially accepted in place of Go Rider cards on North Star, Waka Pacific, Go West, Metrolink and LINK bus services. Eventually customers will be able to use the HOP Card on Auckland’s rail, ferry and other bus services, according to Aukland Transit.
Similar to London’s Oyster card system, HOP allows users to add credit to their cards via top up machine or online. To pay for fares, users simply tap their HOP card against a reader.
HOP cards featuring a SNAPPER logo can also be used for everyday contactless purchases at participating retailers, including newsstands, restaurants and more.
