According to an article in the Los Angeles Times, U.S. Secret Service agents are investigating a Russian immigrant suspected of tampering with computers at Caltech and Pasadena City College to try to steal credit card numbers and other personal information.
The suspect, 48 year old Dimitri Sinilnikov, was arrested for violating probation on an identity theft conviction in Florida.
According to PCC and Caltech officials Sinilnikov attempted to install software on the schools’ computer systems that could record user keystrokes in an attempt to record credit card numbers and possibly other personal information.
