Swedish RFID technology company Arcontia has developed a contactess card reader with a compact flash interface developed for use in e-ticketing and public transportation. The first couple of hundred units have already been sold to Norway, where they’re being used in the country’s electronic fare collection system.
Gothenburg, Sweden– Arcontia AB, a contactless smart card reader supplier in RFID markets, announced the launch of a new compact flash reader, which provides state-of-the art security features needed for advanced contactless smart card payment.
The reader has an ability to use 424 kbit/s air interface, which in practice reduces the communication time with 30% compared to standard 106 kbit/s. The reader is also certified for a rough environment regarding a wide temperature range, vibration, humidity and electrical safety. These are key issues, when speaking of mobile use in public transportation.
The first couple of hundred units have already been rolled out to Fara A/S in Norway to be used as mobile sales and validation units within their concept of electronic fare collection. In total, 210 readers are to be integrated in the handheld computer Psion Workabout PRO from Psion Teklogix.
The Danish part of Psion Teklogix and Arcontia, have been cooperating since 1999 regarding the implementation of the electronic ticketing in public transportation. As customer requirements for mobile e-ticketing solutions are much more sophisticated as of today, we are happy to present this new compact flash reader, which is compliant to ISO14443 A/B and the whole MIFAREr family including MIFARE DESFirer and UltraLightr.
