RFID Leader Provides Inventory and Tracking Shipment Solution for Largest Third Party Logistics Company in Greece
MORGAN HILL, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Alien Technology, an industry leader in Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) products and services, today announced the completion of a warehouse distribution center system for inventory and shipment tracking for Diakinisis’ warehouse distribution center. Located in Athens, Greece, the system uses Gen 2 Squiggle® and ‘M’ tags and ALR-8800 readers from Alien Technology, with RFID installation services provided by Business Effectiveness, a preferred Alien Technology solution integrator.
“The project’s focus was to achieve 100% traceability in the in-coming pallet shipments,” said Nikos Koromilas, director of executive operations & administration at Diakinisis. “We soon realized that RFID could be expanded to include additional benefits: using shelf tags to verify use of the correct storage location to automate control of outgoing shipments. We are quite satisfied with the RFID hardware and software infrastructure provided by Business Effectiveness and products from Alien Technology.”
Business Effectiveness specified Alien®’s Gen 2 field-proven readers and tags for three separate RFID applications within the Diakinisis warehouse and DC environment.
-
Floor-mounted and shelf tags communicate to fork-lift mounted antennas and validate pickup and inventory data. Alien’s Gen 2 M tags are applied onto the concrete floor and Alien’s Squiggle tags are used on pallets and the shelves.
-
Portals are used at the dock door to track the out-going Gen 2 tagged pallets.
-
Trucks are tagged with RFID labels.
-
“We consider the Diakinisis portal solution to be the best outdoor Gen 2 portal in the market today, as the eight portals have been designed to withstand the harsh conditions of both adverse weather conditions, and the challenges of operating within a DC environment,” said Vlasis Tsezos, engineering manager at Business Effectiveness.
“A typical RFID installation addresses the automation or streamlining of a particular process, but the Diakinisis DC is very unique in that Alien’s RFID solutions are being used as the central data capture method for storing all in-coming shipments,” said Stephen Crocker, director of sales/channels for Europe, Middle East, Africa and India for Alien Technology. “The Diakinisis project represents one of Europe’s first full-scale RFID installations in a FMCG DC environment, and we are very proud to be associated with Diakinisis in this unique and highly effective application.”
