Two New York-area 7-Eleven stores have begun testing NFC-enabled kiosks that let shoppers download coupons and in-store specials with just a tap of their NFC phone, according to Twice.com.
Developed by Solekai Systems and Raging Mobile, the kiosk is designed to sit at the store entrance so that users can “check-in” to receive offers to their mobile device before shopping. According to the partners, this system can help drive in-store sales and lure foot traffic to brick-and-mortar shop fronts.
The prototype kiosk that 7-Eleven is using is equipped with Android-based NFC software from Solekai, but future versions may incorporate femtocell technology to accommodate existing non-NFC phones, says Raging Mobile.
