4,000 students and staff exposed following Rice University breach

A storage device was stolen from Rice University containing information of more than 4,000 students and staff, according to eSecurity Planet.
The device reportedly contained the names, Social Security numbers and other personally identifying information of approximately 4,000 faculty, staff, students and retirees.
University officials are still investigating the theft and notifying all who might have been affected. The university is also providing free credit-monitoring services and reviewing its internal security procedures to prevent future thefts and security breaches.
Officials also noted that there has been no sign that any employee or student data has been used for identity theft.
